Where is Glace hiding?

During our recent 'Winter Deer' class I provided students with a handout showing some 'winter-inspired' tangles for them to learn for their winter Zentangle fun. One of them is called Glace. It is a tangle created by Rick and Maria in November 2013. It reminded them of ice as it melts and reforms. It reminds me of the roof of a gingerbread house, or in the variation shown here it reminds me of fairy lights when you first open the box and they are all so neatly arranged :) But one of my students contacted me to say she couldn't find it online. There is a Glace tangle that someone has posted, but it doesn't look at all like this! So here's the scoop...there are a few tangles from Rick and Maria that they have shared with CZTs along the way, but for one reason or another never got around to publishing the stepouts, so those few are not available at TanglePatterns.com and generally no stepouts have been posted for them. What seems to have happened with this one is that someone else has created a different tangle independently and named it Glace, so if you google that name it comes up with a completely different tangle! To find more 'hidden' tangles check out THIS PAGE on tanglepatterns.com and then ask your local CZT to teach them to you in class. We can take a look at Glace during our 'All Boxed Up' class on Sunday or ask me to teach it whenever we next meet.

Fall Fun - Breathe, relax, create

I love this time of year. Even though my kids are now eighteen and twenty, I still can't help thinking yellow school bus and backpacks and new crayola crayons and pencils! New routines, cooler weather, fall colors, holidays bringing a special focus on sharing with friends and family. In honor of the season, I have been working with Kate Lamontagne at Kamala Art and Soul and Linda Kabat at Franklin Art Center to ensure plenty of fun opportunities for you to come play at their studios. Keep reading to find out more...

In Franklin we are launching a new program called 'Tea and Tangles' in a new time slot for Zentangle on Monday mornings. Yes, while the kids are occupied and entertained and working hard at school, you get to breathe and relax, sip your favorite beverage, and make beautiful art at your local art studio :) How fun is that!

If you need a restful weekend class, then consider 'Traveling with Tangles' and join us for our relaxing Sunday afternoon classes over at Kamala.

Both programs, 'Tea and Tangles' and 'Traveling with Tangles', run twice per month and will include a mix of skills classes and seasonal projects. I am also working with Woodside Montessori School in Millis to see if we can set up a kids afterschool program again this year, probably on Mondays; if anyone has kids that would be interested in weekly afterschool Zentangle program please let me know.

And finally (for now!) stay tuned for some Family Fun classes at Franklin Art Center - more on that soon! Check out the details and photos on my class information page CLICK HERE and if you have any questions, suggestions or requests, please call or email - as always I would love to hear from you! 774-571-8461 or SarahD.Zenventure@gmail.com. You can also stay in touch with the latest news on my Facebook page - CLICK HERE or just google 'The Traveling Tangler' (its a public page, you don't have to be a FB member to view it)

How much fun will YOU have this fall? Hope to see you soon :)

Hi everyone! Here are the details of the upcoming classes at Franklin Art Center. Also check out the Class Info page to find out about classes at other locations, including a kids afterschool program and a weekly opportunity to get together with other tanglers at a local library. Hope to see you soon (in class or on My Facebook page!)

Zentangle Workshops at Franklin Art Center

Second Sunday of every month, starting Jan 11th
1-3pm
$30 per workshop or $150 for six week series

At each workshop (details below) we will use Zentangle method to create a unique piece of art and mount it in a themed ‘peek-a-boo’ style card which can be decorated, along with the envelope, to create your own original-design, coordinated stationary. Beginners and experienced tanglers welcome. Ages 12yr+ through adults and seniors. $30 per workshop or $150 for six class series. All materials for class are provided. Demo pens are available but you may want to bring your Zentangle kit if you have oneStudents without previous experience of Zentangle are welcome to attend any of the workshops, but a Beginners Class is a great place to start if you can make it!

January 11th - New Beginnings

Begin the new year by learning something new (or re-visiting the magic of your first Zentangle tile!). We are kicking off the new year, and our new program at Franklin Art Center, with a workshop that teaches all the basic steps along with the fundamental skills, techniques and philosophy that forms the foundation of the Zentangle method. A great place to start if you are brand new to Zentangle, or if you are self taught with books and online resources. Also a wonderful experience for returning students to get reconnected with the core principles and values of Zentangle, and explore and develop variations of simple beginner tangles.

February 8th - With a Valentine in Mind

Love is in the air and is the theme of February's Zentangle workshop at Franklin Art Center. Join us to explore lots of ways to introduce love into your Zentangle work this month. Use heart themed borders, strings and tangles to create a beautiful card to frame and display or to gift to someone on Valentine's Day.

March 8th - Tangled Garden

With warmer weather in mind, let's encourage spring along by creating a tangled garden in our artwork at this month's workshop. Learn a variety of plant-like tangles and how to layer and merge them to form a tangled garden on a peek-a-boo card. We might even sneak in a shamrock in honor of St Patrick!

April 12th - Great Grids

There are lots of grid based tangles that you can incorporate in your Zentangle practice, and endless variations that you can create for yourself. In this workshop we will learn some classic tangles based on grids of lines, circles and squares and explore the ways in which grids can be used to create 3D effects. And of course mount your work in a peek-a-boo card and decorate with matching tangling. All within the simplicity of the Zentangle approach!

May 10th - Ribbons and Curls

Celebrate Mother's Day with us. Bring your mother/grandmother or son/daughter/grandchild to join you in class today and lets explore different ways to create ribbon and curl patterns to decorate a beautiful card to honor the mother/child connection on this special day for all the mothers in our lives.

June 14th - Finale!

Getting ready for a 'Zentangle Inspired Summer' with this class which explores combining Zentangle drawing method with collage. Instead of the traditional black pen and white paper tile we will explore creating designs on tan 'Rennaisance' tiles and we are excited to welcome Ellen Levy to join us to walk us through tips and techniques for card making with a special emphasis on using collage with Zentangle. $30, materials included, ages 12yr thru adults and seniors. This class is already half full. Register soon if you would like to join us!
